Unbeaten three-year-old FRANKEL (GB) [135] continues to set the pace at the top of the 2011 World Thoroughbred Rankings following his exhilarating triumph in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (G1) (Sponsored by Qipco) last weekend. He reaffirmed the rating he achieved earlier in the summer in the Qipco Sussex Stakes (G1) in no uncertain fashion in defeating EXCELEBRATION (IRE) [126] and the French filly IMMORTAL VERSE (IRE) [121].

Elsewhere on the newly inaugurated British Champions raceday, the evergreen French gelding CIRRUS DES AIGLES (FR) [128] continued his improvement and put up a career best performance in the Qipco Champion Stakes (G1) in defeating SO YOU THINK (NZ) [126] and SNOW FAIRY (IRE) [122]. The latter duo had earlier finished in the frame in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1) behind the hugely impressive three year old German filly DANEDREAM (GER) [128], who achieved the same rating as the last three year old filly to win that race, the French trained Zarkava (IRE) back in 2008.

Danedream (GER) now shares top billing among the fillies and mares in the current listing with crack Australian BLACK CAVIAR (AUS) [128], whose career high rating of 130 was achieved prior to the period covered in this listing, but whose performance in the Darley TJ Smith Stakes (G1) warrants inclusion on a mark of 128. Black Caviar (AUS) recently reappeared after her winter break in the Schweppes Schillaci Stakes (G2) and looked as good as ever in winning that race. Elsewhere in Australia, the three year old colt SEPOY (AUS) [123] has looked outstanding in his early season romps in the Sportingbet Manikato Stakes (G1) and in the Perri Cutten Caulfield Sprint (G2).

Apart from Danedream (GER), the other outstanding performance from the Arc weekend in Paris was that of British trained three year old (and joint European champion juvenile with Frankel in 2010) DREAM AHEAD (USA) [126], who defeated the outstanding French mare GOLDIKOVA (IRE) [124] in a pulsating finish to the Total Prix de la Foret (G1) over 1400m.

In North America, the big guns heading for the forthcoming Breeders' Cup meeting have been going through their paces in the many big races leading up to their season finale. Among the most impressive performances in this regard recently include the dominant return to form of 2010 champion US juvenile UNCLE MO (USA) [121] in the Kelso Handicap (G2) en route to the Breeders' Cup Classic, where he is likely to meet the progressive distaffer HAVRE DE GRACE (USA) [120] who romped home recently in the mud in the Beldame Invitational Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park.
