DUKE OF MARMALADE (IRE) [127] produced the highest rated Turf performance of 2008 to date with a courageous victory in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1) at Ascot. His half length win over PAPAL BULL (GB) [126] has seen him elevated to the top of the Turf rankings in the latest edition of the World’s Leading Horses, compiled by the panel of handicappers/racing secretaries affiliated to the IFHA (International Federation of Horseracing Authorities).
CURLIN (USA) [130] failed to transfer his best form to the Turf when runner-up in the Man O’ War Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park, but still retains top spot overall on the strength of his dominant victories on Dirt.

MONTMARTRE (FR) [126] joins BIG BROWN (USA) [126] and NEW APPROACH (IRE) [126] at the top of the 3yo tree on the strength of his commanding 4 length success in the Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris (G1). Other notable performances from 3yos in the past month came from J J THE JET PLANE (SAF) [120], who underlined his class and potential in the Mercury Sprint (G1), and from MUSIC NOTE (USA) [120], whose 11 length victory in the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) makes her the highest-ranked filly or mare on Dirt in 2008 so far.
COMMENTATOR (USA) [122], who had captured the 2005 running of the Whitney Handicap (G1), returned to Saratoga to take the 2008 renewal with an emphatic 4.75 length victory, in the process moving into third spot in the Dirt rankings behind Curlin (USA) and Big Brown (USA).
HENRYTHENAVIGATOR (USA) [124] took his fourth Group 1 prize in succession with a battling head victory over RAVEN’S PASS (USA) [122] in the BGC Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, and remains the top Turf miler, while KIP DEVILLE (USA) [122] becomes equal leading older Turf miler with Hong Kong’s GOOD BA BA (USA) [122] after his near 3 length victory in the Poker Handicap (G3) at Belmont Park.
2007 Deutsches Derby (G1) winner ADLERFLUG (GER) [121] put up his best effort to date with an impressive 7 length victory in the Deutschland Preis (G1) at Dusseldorf, while POCKET POWER (SAF) [121] confirmed his place as the top horse trained in South Africa with a dead-heat victory in the Vodacom Durban July Handicap (G1) at Greyville and a game second in the Champions Cup (G1) at Clairwood, both times shouldering top weight.
The World's Leading Horses are compiled by the World Rankings Supervisory Committee and published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA). The next World's Leading Horses listing will be released on 11th September 2008.
