THE LONGINES WORLD'S BEST RACEHORSE RANKINGS
The official listing of the world's best racehorses (For 3yos and upwards which raced between 1st January and 7th September 2014) Japanese-trained 5-y-o JUST A WAY (JPN) [130] has now completed six months as the top rated horse in the 2014 LONGINES World's Best Racehorse Rankings on the strength of his outstanding victory in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes (G1)at Meydan in March. However the feature of the past month of top class racing action has been the terrific performances put up by the 3-yo generation.
Dual Derby winner AUSTRALIA (GB) [126] is now the joint second highest rated horse in the world, having put up his best effort to date in the Juddmonte International Stakes (G1) at York in August. Already the winner of the Investec Derby (G1) at Epsom and the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (G1) at the Curragh in June, Australia completed his Group 1 hat-trick with a two length success over Prix du Jockey Club (G1) winner THE GREY GATSBY (IRE) [121]. Sharing second place with Australia are VARIETY CLUB (SAF) [126], the four length winner of the Champions Mile (G1) at Sha Tin in May, and KINGMAN (GB) [126], who recorded his fourth consecutive Group 1 triumph with a smooth success in the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-Le-Buffard Jacques Le Marois (G1) at Deauville in August. In North America, SHARED BELIEF (USA) [122] maintained his unbeaten record in impressive style when capturing the TVG Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar. Now the winner of six races by a cumulative margin of 31.75 lengths, Shared Belief defeated the UAE Derby (sponsored by the Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group) (G2) winner TOAST OF NEW YORK (USA) by a decisive two and three-quarter lengths. The top performance by a filly since the previous edition of the Rankings was put up by TAPESTRY (IRE) [120]. Having finished strongly into second place in the Darley Irish Oaks (G1) at the Curragh in July, Tapestry produced a much improved display to become the first horse to lower the colours of TAGHROODA (GB) [124], the pair pulling seven lengths and more clear of their rivals in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks (G1). * * * * * * The LONGINES World's Best Racehorse Rankings are compiled by the LONGINES World's Best Racehorse Rankings Committee and published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA).
