The lightly raced unbeaten French bred three year old filly TREVE (FR) [130] has jumped to the top of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings (alongside the Australian super mare BLACK CAVIAR (AUS) [130], now retired) following her scintillating romp in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1).

On just her fifth career start, Treve overcame a bad draw to trounce ORFEVRE (JPN) [125] (runner-up also in 2012), the Prix du Jockey Club winner INTELLO (GER) [124] and the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) winner KIZUNA (JPN) [121]. This brilliant filly is set to stay in training for the 2014 season.

There were two other memorable performances from the Arc weekend in Longchamp. MOONLIGHT CLOUD (GB) [123] achieved a career high rating and maintained her unbeaten record in 2013 with an astonishing burst of acceleration to win the Qatar Prix de la Forêt (G1) with ease, while the previous day in the Qatar Prix Dollar (G2), the seven year old French gelding CIRRUS DES AIGLES (FR) [123] gave a serious indication that he may be returning to his best form of 2012 when comfortably winning the race for the third time in four years.

Meanwhile in North America, Breeders’ Cup aspirants are preparing for their end of season championship races next month.  The most notable ‘prep’ performances were put up by two older horses preparing for the Breeders’ Cup ClassicMUCHO MACHO MAN (USA) [123] gave every indication that he can go close in that race again (runner-up in 2012) with an impressive performance in the Awesome Again Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita, while RON THE GREEK (USA) [122] achieved a career high rating with a resounding win against a high class field in the Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park.
