New CEO for New Zealand racing

The Board of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) has appointed Malcolm Holmes to the position of Chief Executive.

Mr Holmes is currently CEO at the Brisbane Turf Club in Queensland and will take up the position at NZTR at the beginning of August.

Guy Sargent, NZTR Chairman, announced the appointment today: "We are delighted that Malcolm has accepted this position. His experience, together with his commercial background, makes him the ideal person to take over this vital role."

"One of Malcolm's priorities will be working with industry stakeholders on our Governance Review and implementing any changes that result from it."

During his time in Queensland one of the key initiatives forty four year old Malcolm Holmes has been involved with is the merger of the two Brisbane metropolitan racing clubs. Prior to this he has held senior executive roles with ACP Media Limited, the Hurricanes Franchise and the Wellington Rugby Union, where he was Chief Executive for almost six years, Carter Holt Harvey Tissue and Woolyarns Limited.

Holmes is looking forward to getting started. "I'm excited by the opportunity to be involved in the New Zealand racing industry during this time of change. My recent involvement in Australia provides me with relevant experience that can be utilised to the benefit of the New Zealand industry."

"I am looking forward to making a significant contribution and to working very closely with the various industry stakeholders to ensure New Zealand's long and proud history of thoroughbred racing continues," Mr Holmes said.
